What's the Rage?

On April 27th several severe storms and tornadoes touched down across the southeast shattering lives and homes. The state of Alabama received the majority of the damage. The state is still in the grips of the devastating reality and the numerous casualties. We are rebuilding but with so much destruction it is a slow process.

Due to the widespread tragedy and horrendous damage statewide most of the attention is understandably going to the more densely populated areas such as Tuscaloosa and Pratt City. Yet there are so many rural communities which were also affected by this panic. Among them are the rural communities of Eoline (Bibb County) and Sawyerville (Hale County).

Rage Against the Wind is an idea formulated by a handful of local musicians and others who wanted to make a difference, but in a unique way - by bringing a youthful spirit to the fight to rebuild what was taken in a brief moment.

On June 20th the Rage Against the Wind benefit compilation album featuring several Alabama artists, many from the Bibb County area, will be released to the public. 100% of the proceeds from this album will go to storm victims in the counties of Bibb and Hale. No money will be donated to any organization, rather it will go directly from the hands of White Wash Productions and Out of the Box Entertainment (the producing entities) to those of victims.

On June 25th in Brent, Albama these artists will perform the first of a series of free live events. Donations will be recieved, and 100% of the proceeds from sales of merchandise and concessions will also go directly to the victims of these storms.

If this venture has the success we are planning, the project will begin donating money to other rural areas which were affected by these storms and are being overlooked due to the attention of major cities.

We hope you support our cause and RAGE WITH US!

A Self Made Rage!

Charlie Crew and Chris Pence aren't your typical hip hop duo. Their styles contrast with one another but compliment the other at the same time. Their haunting track, "My Hometown" will appear on the "Rage Against the Wind" compilation CD.
Pence and Crew met each other in school and began working on their act right away. Since then they have been laying down solid tracks and gaining a lot of respect in Alabama, especially in the Autauga/ Montgomery County area.
They perform under the name "Self Made," which Crew explains was a name created in the studio one day. After trying to come up with a name for a while, Crew said "Self Made" just stuck.
Crew is no stranger to tragedy and disaster. He served 4 year in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in both Iraq and Afghanistan during wartime. So when disaster struck his home state just before his service ended on May 13th, he was compelled to help.
"I have always wanted to do a song about our hometown, Billingsley," Crew stated. "I had been looking for the perfect sample to use for it and finally found it. We wrote a beat, then we went to White Wash Productions studio and laid down the rest."
The track features a sample from Adele's song "Hometown Glory."
After setting the original beat to a series of photos from the April 27th storm, producer Daniel L. Bamberg was inspired to contact the Autauga County based group to get on the album. "Self Made" was the first non-Bibb County based act to commit to the project. Bamberg explains that this was the first step towards project legitimacy.
"When I first contacted Charlie I really thought they wouldn't see a reason to hook up with a Bibb County project or an unknown production company," said Bamberg. "He was very receptive and honestly thanked me before I had an opportunity to thank him. I thought getting them was a shot in the dark and had no idea they would be willing to come to David's studio to record. To me, this was the moment that the project became legitimate. I was so concerned that nobody outside of Bibb County would join the cause, but it happened and it began with Self Made."
Though Crew and Pence are both from Billingsley, Pence was born in Bibb County and has family and friends in the area.  Self Made will also be performing at the June 25th concert.
